DAY 1
Our safari starts in Maun, the safari capital of Botswana. Our guide will meet you at the airport/hotel in the morning. This safari takes you to one of the most remote areas of the Okavango Delta. You will hop on a boat for a transfer to your camp which is set up on a stunning island. After a freshly prepared lunch and a little siesta we will go on our first activity, a little Bushwalk. After a delicious dinner, we will get the chance to get to know each other and share some campfire stories before you will sleep your first night in the middle of this beautiful wilderness.
DAY 2
Over the next days you will explore this area on twice daily activities. These activities will primarily be focused on walking safaris and if water levels allow mokoro rides (traditional canoes). Mokoros can also be used to reach new walking areas nearby. The morning walks are typically longer (about 4-5 hours) because the temperature is lower. As it’s starting to get hot during the day, the afternoon activities are normally more relaxed and vary according to the comfort level of the group. During the walks a wide range of topics will be covered including tracks & tracking. botanical information, birding, insects, ecology related to the Okavango Delta, local traditional medicines, to allow you an overall safari experience and better understanding of the whole ecosystem. There are no set schedules and walks will be conducted with safety as priority.
DAY 3
This is the day we will experience Jao culture and its local people from the Bayei tribe. Imagine walking through an unknown village and feeling welcomed on every corner. This is our home – Jao village, a beautiful small place in the middle of the magical Okavango Delta.
Jao will make you understand the culture of living in the Delta. You will get to taste the traditional food prepared by a local family and enjoy the feeling, taste, smell and texture in one of the most traditional meals you will get to experience. You will get to eat Tswii the water Lilly stew, taste wild honey and Ilala palm as a vegetable, this is just the start that will open your pallads to new dimensions.
The cultural trip to Jao, also presents you with the best basket weaving hands from Botswana as well as teaching you how to give color to the gorgeous basket’s that are woven. Women from the Bayei tribe have painstakingly created this art from the “mokola” palm tree fiber and they are woven around grass or vine. The barks and roots from different trees are used to make the dye colors, really expressing the beauty and art of the Bayei people in Jao.
DAY 4
After a leisurely breakfast we will leave that special place behind and get you back to Maun where our shared wild experience will end. We are happy to help you arrange any post-accommodation or ongoing travel plans. This Safari can be combined with the “Wild Okavango Experience- Wildlife Explorer” or the “Wild Okavango Experience- Walking Safari”
